The insight that there is a spark of humanity in everyone is the foundation of the Spark of Humanity network. We have discovered that as we connect with and affirm the spark in others, we are claiming our personal sparks and becoming agents of transformation.
As we are engaged by life and moving through our experiences in this world, we sometimes notice that our sparks have become defended, distorted, or baffled. However, we have found they can never be extinguished or corrupted. As we claim our sparks and connect with and affirm the sparks of others, it seems that their sparks are strengthened. In our experience, it seems that the strengthened spark acts to erode the defenses, release the distortions, and clarify the bafflement–from the inside. Thus we find that, indeed, we are agents of transformation.
As we continue in this work, we encounter the flip side of this phenomenon. We find that in claiming our sparks as agents of transformation, our own sparks are vitalized and strengthened. When we are honest, we may find that this has us bumping into our own defenses, bafflement, and distortions. Oh. Even maybe Ouch.
Because we have come to believe in the work and the transformative potential of our claimed sparks, we become willing to allow our own defenses to be eroded, our own bafflement to be clarified, and our own distortions to be released. We are willing to be transformed for the work by the work. It is, indeed, very good.
Our beliefs can be summed up by the following reassurances. We are reassured that:
- In everyone, there is a spark of humanity. As we claim our sparks, we become agents of transformation.
- As agents of transformation, all the resources we need are available to us.
- It works best when we, ourselves, are willing to be transformed
We see the network’s purpose as encouraging and supporting folks in this claiming of their personal sparks and in the supporting and encouraging of others to claim theirs. As we do this work, we find that our sparks draw us closer to our true place in the ever-evolving, multi-dimensional dance of Being.
